Modern day Christian leaders utilize technology

Author: Rodney ORourke

Defining strategy for Christian leadership becomes more challenging as the economy goes south. As attendance and volunteers drop in some cases plummet, donations follow in record numbers. This sad reality is what a lot of Christian organizations are starting see on a weekly basis. As we look forward is technology the answer?

As attendance and donations continue to decline coast to coast, that does not seem to be the normality everywhere. Many churches have used traditional methods to engage the public for many generations. As successful as those campaigns have been, the effectiveness of print media and other paper medias has been on the decline for some time. Success is not always a direct result of advertising and media. Focus and direction are key elements to the success of an organization.

Media is important, so try different media. Your organization should be heavily weighted on the internet. Imagine if you had a billboard advertisement on a two way highway in a rural area. This is what having a website up as your entire presence. How effective would it be? Now imagine the same billboard advertisement in the middle of Times Square in New York City. A little more effective, wouldn’t you agree? The second is an example of a website, facebook, twitter, myspace, LinkedIn and other online mediums. You can also throw in some search engine optimization as well.

Any organization needs a strong focus and solid direction. Take a look at your mission statement and examine what the description is compared to what your organization provides. If you utilize resources to go outside of your initial focus, when times get tight your original mission is in jeopardy. Remember that the mission statement should guide the actions of the organization.

It is important to remember that even non-profit organizations even churches are businesses too. It is important to operate like a business with the mission at the forefront. Look at your out going funds and your income and make good decisions for the health of the organization.

About the Author

Right Standing Network was developed by Right Standing Ministries a non-profit organization, to create an open forum for Christian Leaders around the world to come together under one platform. We believe that the local ministries are the foundation of a community. We have developed Right Standing Network to cater to the small portable ministries as well as the large mega ministries. Our site manages videos, video conferencing, blogs, walls, events, photos, classified, chat, forums and more. The only limitations will be a lack of creativity. Imagine hundreds or thousands of Christian Leaders coming together in open discussions. We have created just that, an open discussion of what works or doesn’t work. We wanted to create a mentoring network for professional Christians with no bounds. RightStanding.net is just that.

Government encourages voluntary contributions – Akshaya Patra

Author: venkat

The Akshaya Patra Foundation

In 2003, a committee, headed by the former Chief Justice of India recommended Akshaya Patra as an eligible project that could raise donations with 100% Tax exemption to the donors. The program was reviewed again in 2006 and 2009 when 100% tax benefits were further extended for 3 years.

This has been crucial to Akshaya Patra, as it enabled the Foundation to raise the funds required for sustenance and growth. Despite the Government’s generous subsidies, we still rely heavily on the contributions of our kind donors to maintain the day to day operations.
The Private-Public Partnership model followed by Akshaya Patra ensures that the mid-day meal program is conducted within the guidelines of the Government. These guidelines (issued by Ministry of Human Resources Department) contain the following clause

“The state government shall be fully responsible in implementing the program through NGOs support either for a cooked meal or pre cooked food variant in eligible schools. To this extent the State Government or the NGO concerned, may mobilize resources for conversion of food grains in to a cooked meal.”
- The Guidelines, in Annexure IX Para 7
Akshaya Patra’s application to the National Committee contained the following basis for the sustainability of the program:

• Conversion cost support from State Govt 25%
• Subsidized grain allotment 25%
• Donations 45%
• others 5%

In addition, the Trust Deed, filed with the various departments of the government, states:
8.xi to accept gifts, donations or contributions from individuals, corporate and non-profit organizationsaround the world so far as they are not inconsistent with the objects of the trust.

Nation building through civic partnership is also a very important aspect of the Government’s mid-day meal program. Therefore, voluntary contributions from the community to improve the meal are encouraged by the Guidelines of revised National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education, 2004.

Akshaya Patra also tries to implement this aspect in its program by bringing together the movers and shakers of India to help close to 1.2 million children across the nation. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Sri Narayan Murthy, Smt Sudha Murthy, Smt Rajshree Birla, Sri Sajjan Jindal and Sri Sunil Mittal are just some of the leading members of society who are donors and well wishers of Akshaya Patra. In fact, in the year 2002, when we formally launched the fund raising for the Akshaya Patra program, the then Education Minister in Karnataka, Sri H.Vishwanath was the first person to contribute towards the program.

On a global level, the Foundation hopes to raise awareness for the mid-day meal program and increase support for the children of our country from people the world over. Any funds raised from foreign countries through our campaign are permitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, under Foreign Contributions (Regulations) Act. These make up only around 10% of our total requirements. All statements of donations received are reported to the Home Ministry year after year.

In fact, the Foundation has strong culture of reporting and transparency that complies with sound disclosure norms. The Gold Shield for Financial Reporting was conferred to the Akshaya Patra by the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India for our excellence in reporting.

In everything that we do, The Akshaya Patra Foundation have maintained strong ethics and adhered to all the guidelines and regulations set by the Government. Through it all, our only hope is to reach out to the children of our nation.

The National Committee for Promotion of Social and Economic Welfare, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

At last – action to make the whole world kin (Ezine Ready)

Author: Wendell W Solomons

At last – action to make the whole world kin By Wendell W SolomonsThis would sound a curious affair to you. When bombs were being unleashed on Yugoslavia I was chosen across oceans in Sri Lanka to serve as one of four directors of a group marching on the Pentagon. How I was chosen was my battle on the Internet where I had dropped everything else but this struggle for the three months.Much water has flown under the bridge since then. It seemed that we lost the battle and also lost the war in toto. The immediate work-face we had to tackle is network media which broadcasts to hundreds of thousands of people, to take a glaring example, on issues such as Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. Our opponents who used network media, were emboldened. They took over as Masters of the Universe.Today, BP's Tony Hayward flaunts before media his master's keys. With thousands of livelihoods and the environment threatened along the US southern coast, Tony Hayward selected to fraternalise with notables at a J P Morgan event where he had his yacht raced. Tony Hayward harks back to the Roman cultivation of apathy. More, in what we take to be the government sector, US President Obama selected to play golf with a key executive of Union Banque Suisse, one of the banks which shrouds accounts in secr

Civic Action For Sustainable Development

Author: John Kilonzi

Welcome to Civic Action for Sustainable Development (CASD) site CASD-KENYA is a registered National Charitable Organization in Kenya, We attest to the fact that the process of empowering the poor and marginal sections is by these sections to express their own analysis and strategies to overcome their powerlessness and poverty:
CASD is based on the believe that the process of empowering the poor and marginal sections, including differently-abled individuals needs adoption of participatory principles which provide space for these sections to express their own analysis and strategies to overcome their powerlessness and poverty. There is a role of development agencies in this regard, be it NGOs, CBOs, government or any other, which is for facilitation of such participatory processes of development. There is a need to build new institutions (NGOs, CBOs, etc.), and to nurture the existing organisations which practice participatory principles and best practices, to enhance the impact of participatory development processes. Influencing government, the biggest player in eradication of poverty, on adopting participatory principles for facilitating people centred development processes.
Our empowerment program seek to address the attitudes of communities towards development and the need for them to participate in it, since it had been noted that the community have for a long time depended on external expertise to solve their own problems.
Our participation would unearth problems within the community, resources they had and how best to address the problems from the community’s perceptive with special reverence to the child.
