Summer Festivals Rajasthan

Author: sohan

The Festivals in Rajasthan are the symbol of the vivacious spirit of the people of the state. Rajasthan is touched by a festive mood on the eve of the Summer Festival.
Dussehra Festival
The Dussehra festival is a three-day Hindu festival held in the moth of Sept-Oct. Although Dussehra is celebrated all over India but it has a different charm as a fair in Kota. On the day of Dussehra, a huge fair is organized in large gardens, where local people gather in colorful clothes to worship Lord Rama and celebrate his victory. Ramlila is performed and colorful effigies, some as high as 100 feet, of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhakaran are burnt. Normally loud crackers are put inside them that produce deafening noises when ignited.
Gangaur Festival
Gangaur Festivals holds a special significance for the Rajasthanis and it is widely celebrated traditional festivals here. ‘Gan’ represents Lord Shiva and ‘Gaur’ represents Goddess Gauri or Parvati. The festival helds in honor of Gauri who is regarded as the symbol of virtue and fidelity and a mythological role model for married women.
The celebrations in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Udaipur have a unique charm and attraction. The festival commences with the ritual of collecting ashes from Holika Dahan and planting seeds of wheat and barley in it. While women carry the painted water pots on their heads, songs praising the deities ‘Isar’ and ‘Gauri’ are sung. Colorful idols of Gauri are taken out on the last day in a procession accompanied by camels.
Teej Festival
Held during the monsoons, July-August Teej is a festival to rejoice the colors, crisscross green-yellow lines, mehandi, rains and swings. The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati and this time it is married women who pray for a happy and long married life.
The rituals allow the women to pamper and enjoy themselves, to feast, to dress in the best of clothes and jewellery. Women sing songs and enjoy rope swings. Parents of married girls send gifts, sweets and clothes to their daughter’s home. Though the festival is celebrated all over the state but it is particularly colorful in Jaipur.
Elephant Festival
Celebrated also in March around Holi is the Elephant Festival of the capital Jaipur, a tourists’ delight. The mighty mammals claim center stage and stride majestically parading their decorated trunks and tusks. The festival begins with a procession of elephants, camels and horses followed by folk dancers at their entertaining best. The god worshiped on the occasion, Ganapati, is the elephant son of Shiva and Parvati.
Hence the land of celebrations Rajasthan has a rich culture and so many fair and festivals are celebrated in every season.

Winter Festival Rajasthan

Author: sohan

The words are not enough to describe Rajasthan. We can say it a land of celebrations where so many fair and festivals are celebrated in every season. These numerous fairs and festivals give an insight of Rajasthani culture and because of these Rajasthan is regarded as the most fascinating and colorful state of the country.
Desert Festival
It is one of the most popular and colorful cultural event in Rajasthan, which is held every year in Jaisalmer in January or February, a correct time to visit the Golden city. The event is organized on the famous golden sand dunes at Sam near Jaisalmer. This festival is a showcase of the performing arts and crafts of Rajasthan. You can enjoy the melodious tunes and rhythms of the folk musicians, amazing folk dances and many more. Many exciting competitions like turban-tying, Camel race, Mr. Desert etc are held during the event.
Camel Festival
This vibrant event is organized at Bikaner every year in the month of January. The camel festival is a spectacular opportunity to witness the fascinating Ship of the Desert-the camel in its most lively form. The festival starts with the procession of beautifully decorated camels passing before the Junagarh Fort in Bikaner. The festivity advances with interesting competitions like the best breed competition, the best fur cutting design on camels, a contest for the best decoration and jewellery on camel.
Hundreds of tourists and thousands of locals rejoice in the charm of the festival with local folk performers, jubilant skirt-swirling dancers and endowed fire dancers.
Pushkar Fair
Very few, if at all any, fairs in the world match the liveliness of Pushkar, celebrated in the month of Kartika (Oct or Nov). It has its own magic and is a lifetime experience for visitors. The fair is the world’s largest camel fair when the villagers from far and near get together and enjoys a welcome break from their harsh life of the arid desert. The village women dress in their best colorful clothes and finery for this five-day Camel festival.
It is an occasion for Hindu pilgrims to converge for a holy dip in the sacred Pushkar Lake and pay obeisance at the only Brahma temple in the world.
Kolayat Fair
Kolayat Fair is the largest fair of Bikaner district held on ‘Kartik Poornima’ (Oct-Now) at Kolayat.  Lacks of people get together this time to take a dip in the Kolayat Lake. It is believed that a single-day stay at Kolayat remunerates as much as 10 years spent at any other sacred land.

All about Last Minute Cruises

Author: Charles Brown

Cruise vacations are in great demand and cruisers are increasing in number every year. The cruising industry is also growing big and every year new cruise ships are being launched by the different cruise liner companies. Being late is often rewarding when it comes to booking last minute cruise deals. Last minute bookings are the best way to get a good discount and you can save for lesser price, while you enjoy all the comforts and facilities on the ship. Sometimes un-planned vacations, busy schedules and uncertainty of the holiday plans prove to be beneficial if you go for last minute cruises. Moreover, last minute cruises come at a discounted price and you can sail for a less cost.Though the cruise liner companies want all the reservations and bookings to be done in advance, and don’t want their ship to sail with a few cabins and rooms un-reserved. This is the time when the cruise liners come up with discounted price packages for the last minute cruises. Last minute cruises are offered by all the cruise companies, provided there is an availability of rooms on their ship. Before booking last minute cruise, a quick internet surfing through the major cruise website will be helpful. It will give you an idea about the last minute cruise deals offered by the different cruise liners and it’ll help you can choose the best deal. Even if you have access to all the entertainment programmes and the vast variety of food and drinks on-board, the only problem with last minute cruises is that you will have limited options of rooms to choose from. This might not be a big concern if you spend most of the time out of your cabin, enjoying all that the cruise has to offer.Like many other cruises, the last minute cruises don’t include air travel fare. Before you book your cruise trip, always make sure that you have read the fine print of the cruise package deal. Double check the type of cabin you have been offered and if it is for single or double occupancy as per your needs. Don’t go for a last minute cruise deal if it just has a low price tag, have a look at the additional charges and make sure that there are no hidden charges or else in the want of saving some money, you will end up paying more.
