Digitizing – Creating Unique Designs for Embroidery

Author: Sunil Punjabi

Although not all designs can be digitized for embroidery, most of them can be edited and sized to suit the pattern. Once the modifications are finished, the digitizer will decide on the pattern of stitches, or how the stitching will be incorporated into the design. This is extremely important if the finished piece is to be even, smooth, and without ‘gaps’ or any flaws. The Digitizing software used ensures that the finished product will look as close to the original design as possible.  Stitches will then be assigned to each separate section of the work by the digitizer. Particular stitches will be used to bring out the uniqueness of the design. A layer of underlying stitches will be used first so that the top surface will be smooth when the rest of the design is stitched. This also helps to add density to the design and to prevent the finished stitches from ’sinking’ into the fabric. If not done correctly, the fabric itself may show through the design. The Digitizing process will prevent this from happening.  There are three basic stitches involved in the Digitizing of any pattern design. These would be run, satin, and fill. With just these three basic stitches many variations can be formed. The kind of fabric being used is taken into consideration. Stitches that work well on one type may not be appropriate for another. Some designs may be ‘ruined’ by using the wrong fabric. Heavier fabrics may take to Digitizing much better than lighter ones. Often, even with the underlying stitches being applied first, a lightweight fabric may still have the ’sinking’ effect, and lose the quality of the design, especially if the design is intricate and involves many stitches to complete.  Digitizing takes an old world craft that was once time consuming and tedious, and brings it into the modern world. Designs that once took months to finish by hand can now be completed in just a few hours by using the proper software programs. Whether you want a design embroidered on a particular article of clothing, an accessory, or something you can frame and hang, this is the way to do it if you don’t have the time or desire to complete the project.  There really isn’t any pattern that can’t be rendered into an art form by Digitizing. Many people have taken photographs and had them enlarged, imprinted, and embroidered, and used them as wall hangings, pillow covers, and more. This may be something that you want to learn to do yourself, and the software programs available not only teach you how to do it, but also will enable you to turn out unique and beautiful end products. You will be able to learn step by step how the process works, experiment on different fabrics, and learn the stitches and how to get the effect you are after. You may even want to turn this into a business venture.  For all your requirements for Digitizing, embroidery digitizing, machine embroidery services, or for digitizing images, photos for gift items or personal items, please contact us or call us for a quote – http://www.superdigitizing.com/

Ski Boots and the Snow

Author: Victoria Gustav

Park City, Utah in the middle of the winter easily reaches 15 degrees and below. Aside from San Diego, Honolulu, Las Vegas, and other notoriously warm places, feverishly cold winter months are not unheard of in a majority of U.S cities. Having lived in Utah for the last couple of years, nothing has become more apparent than the importance of a solid pair of ski boots. Whether you find yourself on the slopes, playing in the snow, walking around outside, or even cuddled up next to a fire with hot cocoa, warm shoes are a necessity. I remember my first snow fight. I played and played in my nice, initially warm, pair of Uggs. Unfortunately, it was not ten minutes before my feet were soaked, and all I could think about were what color my toes might be. I looked around at the kids who had grown up in Alaska, Colorado, and Michigan. Their feet were covered in thick, black, and what I considered mildly hideous, boots. But they were warm.I was a California girl, who moved to Vegas and learned at a very early age that fashion was everything. But when I was the first one inside warming my feet in a bath tub, I set out for my first pair of that tragedy of a shoe. The ski boot. I can now promise there is nothing more rewarding then sitting outside the morning after a snow, breathing in the air, without a need or care in the world to be thinking about the temperature of your feet.

Sewing Machine Accessories for Different Projects

Author: Joshua Martindale

Having your own sewing machine is any designer’s dream come true. You can now make clothing and crafts for yourself in your very own home. It might seem that you’ve got everything you need, but as soon as you start sewing, you would then realize what kind of sewing machine accessories you need.A basic sewing kit will generally come with most sewing machines. But some of these kits can be bought separately instead. While these are not required, they would certainly make sewing more fun and interesting. It would also be nice to keep everything organized in a small tool box with different compartments. Imagine pulling out that mini-shelf in your machine, and everything would be scattered instantly. Having them in a toolbox not only keep things organized, it also prevents overloading your machine with heavy stuff. Here are a few things that one should keep in their shopping list for sewing machine accessories. While you may not get to use all of them, it would certainly not hurt to have them just in case. Feet and AttachmentsThere are different feet for attaching a regular zipper, an invisible one, a binding ribbon and so on. There is even a special feet for attaching sequins and trims with protruding details like beads or buttons. Newer machines also have a special one-step attachment that lets you make button holes right from your very own machine. This function is usually integrated in the machine but without the right foot, it would not work. There are also some attachments that convert it into an altogether different device. You can save a lot of money if you buy these attachments instead. Examples of these are the accessories that attach a binding ribbon as a piping and those that create ruffles and gathers from soft fabrics. Oil or LubricantIt is essential that the machine gets oiled regularly to keep it running smoothly. NeedlesWhile your basic kit comes with regular needles, you would need different grades for different kinds of fabrics. Depending on the brand, there should be some set standards that they require for denim, knitwear and light fabrics. Bobbin and Bobbin CaseYou need to keep stack of bobbins as you will soon use plenty of colors. Some people try to cut costs by using similar colored threads. But these bobbins are so cheap you can have as much color as you want. ScrewdriverThis is quite handy when you want to loosen or tighten the screws of your machine. As these are just the basics, it is best to ask veteran sewers which tools they most often use so you can update your toolbox with the latest sewing machine accessories.

Choosing Centers for Fabric Flowers

Author: Jordan English

Fabric flower centers. Fabric flowers have recently grown in popularity. The reason for this may be a number of things. They are fairly easy to make if you have the right instructions. The type of flowers can be a simple and basic design that requires only a few pieces of fabric to complex creations that can use more than ten pieces of fabric.
There are a couple of different things that really contribute to the appearance of the flower. The color of the fabric is obviously the most important factor. Next is the center that you use for your flower. There are so many different things that you can use as a center piece. There are some specific things that you should look for when choosing the centerpiece of your fabric flower.

The centerpiece you use should cover any stitching that there may be in the middle.
If an item can not cover the stitches, you can use more of the same item to cover it, or combine a few different pieces to do the job.
It should not be greater than the smallest piece of fabric that is used in the flower.
You must be able to glue or stitch the chosen center in place.

Those are the primary criteria the center piece should meet. In most cases, people use buttons covered in fabric or as-is. There are many different styles and models you can use with just buttons so the list goes on and on so I won’t try to list them all here.
Some of the most popular centers, you will notice, are different colored beads, pearls and rhinestones. Also shells, fabric centers and almost anything else that meets the criteria can be used.
When you select the right center, the color and design should complement your flower. The purpose of the flower should also be taken into consideration. If you want a funky type of flower you can even use a bottle cap. But if you are looking for a more elegant look, then a crystal or fabric embellishment will clearly be a better choice.
Often, you do not even need to go to the store to find the center right of use. There are many things around the home that you can use. Do you have broken costume jewelry anywhere? What about the junk drawer? If you really thought about it, you would be surprised at all the options you have at your disposal to make the perfect and unique fabric flower for a headband or clip. It can be great fun to come up with different ideas to make your flowers look different.
