Go with Cheap Flooring With a Fixer-Upper Or Rental Unit?

Author: Ezra Plank

You’re getting your house prepared to put it up for sale … or your apartment prepared to be rented. The bathroom floor is in truly bad shape, so you’ll need to do something about that first. Should you look for some cheap flooring to help save money, or should you use something more expensive?

Don’t you hate to have to make decisions like this? You need your house to look really good, but you just hate to spend any more than necessary. After all, you are not going to be living there yourself.

So let’s take a better look at what’s involved. BTW, I realize that the word “cheap” has some negative vibes. But try thinking of it as meaning “inexpensive”, not tawdry.

What’s the issue?

* You need flooring that’s durable, and is simple to maintain, especially for a rental unit. You don’t want to be putting in a new floor each time a tenant moves out.

* The flooring must be low cost, but you don’t want it to seem shabby. Can you find anything that fits this description?

* If the floors look “dated”, nobody will want to live there. Forget those shag carpets from the 70’s!

* You can command a higher price if the floor makes the place look classy enough. Isn’t there a way to get cheap flooring that looks just like exotic hardwood?

Carpeting or Wood Flooring?

Wall-to-wall carpet is gradually becoming less popular, and wood flooring is replacing it. One reason carpeting was popular is that it is comfortable to sit on. But it certainly isn’t as sanitary as a wooden floor. And wooden floors nowadays can have hot air ducted beneath them, so they aren’t cold to walk on any more.

Genuine Hardwood or a Look-alike?

It’s true that actual wood definitely looks a lot classier, but some modern flooring materials can be difficult to detect. Laminate flooring and engineered flooring are now manufactured with an upper layer that’s a photographic image of actual wood, covered with a tough transparent acrylic material. So at first glance, you can’t tell it from the real hardwood.

So What’s the Answer?

You still don’t know whether you should install cheap flooring or expensive flooring? That’s not surprising. I’m not going to give you an answer to that question! You’re going to have to make up your own mind.

But I Need Help!

Yes, you do. You need to look into the different kinds of flooring to see if any of them can do what you would like done at a reasonable price. And you’ll need to find out what’s the cheapest flooring in each category. But not to worry – help is on the way – keep reading.

Tips to Handle Gutter Cleaning

Author: Jeff Clark

Maintaining their guttering system in tip-top shape can be extremely stressful for some people. Not only do they have to consider different maintenance procedures since gutters come in various types and sizes (seamless and sectional, U-shape and K-shape for examples), they also need to spend for a number of services that includes cleaning. However, cleaning your guttering system does not necessarily have to be done by a professional. While gutter cleaning seems to be a very complicated thing to work on, it can actually be a Do-It-Yourself task.  So if you have decided that it’s time to give your gutter some cleaning (which is usually twice a year, one during spring and another during fall) and you’re trying to figure out what are the tips that should be followed, then in your luck. There are ways to ensure that cleaning your gutter would be more “effective” than it would be a “headache”.Do not place your ladder directly on the gutterGutter cleaning requires that you climb the roof with a ladder. But the ladder should not be placed directly on the gutter itself to avoid damage. There are gutters that are available with attachments so you can adjust your ladder higher without doing it any damage.Use Rubber GlovesYou have to remove debris that you can reach by your hands when you are cleaning your gutter so having rubber in handy would be recommended. This would also avoid any accidental cuts that you might get from working in the roof as well as to protect your hands from the heat of the roof when doing the cleaning on a hot sunny day.You can do relevant home repairs while cleaning your gutterSince you’re already there in the roof, you might as well include other things that need fixing. For instance, if there are nails up there that are already loosened, you can hammer new ones. Or you can reposition your television’s antenna.Have an auger readyThere would be instances when you will encounter foreign materials in your gutter that already hardened. For clogs that are too tough to remove, you need to use an auger. Once you are done, spray water to it to make sure that there’s no more clog that will stop water flow.Spray water on hard to reach areasThere is a hose especially designed for gutters that could spray down debris that are too small to be reached by your hands.

Roof Replacement needed because of hail damage:Should my Insurance company pay for it?

Author: James Horn

If you live in the Denver area, high winds and hail are just a part of life. Your home can be damaged by these and you may not be aware of it. Now you’re probably like most people and wonder if it’s worth making a claim for something that didn’t do “noticeable” damage? The answer is YES. Both wind and hail storms can seriously affect the integrity of your roof, siding, windows and gutters without leaving obvious damage. The result could be a major costly problem in a year or so, and by then it will be too late to have the insurance pay for it. Why? Because there is a time limit with most insurance carriers on how long after a storm that you can still file a claim. Now after that time period is up, your insurance carrier will not only agree that you have storm related damage, but the may also deny any future claims because you never had the necessary repairs made.
Most people are understandably confused by the claim process. Unfortunately there are a lot of myths out there, some of which are: If I file a claim, then I’ll lose my coverage or it will raise my premium. FALSE. There are state laws in place to protect you from that happening. The Insurance Company will send its own roofer out to do the work and I won’t have any say over the quality or schedule of the work. FALSE. You the homeowner are responsible for choosing the contractor that you are most comfortable with. My roof is new so it’s covered by the manufacturers warranty. FALSE. Warrantees become null and void after a storm has caused damage.
So to conclude if there was a hail storm in your area or you suspect damage call a professional company to determine whether or not you should file a claim for storm related damage.

OSHA Regulations In Residential Construction

Author: Safety Training Works

Problems in Residential Building (OSHA)
Residential construction poses special problems for contractors. In fact, OSHA has currently looking at the fall protection training rules to make differences that better fit the issues institute at residential sites. In the meantime, OSHA has implemented an OSHA Instruction Standard 3.1-Interim  Fall Protection Training Compliance Guidelines for Residential Construction until the rule can be modified. Also, OSHA has also teamed up with the National Association of Home-builders (NAHB) to produce a instruction guide that contractors need to use to meet OSHA requirements for residential construction . This toolbox talk will briefly highlight the issue found in that handbook . The instruction guide stresses that if there is ever any inconsistency between it and the OSHA regulations , the OSHA rules will always reign. The instruction guide information should never be considered a substitute for any provisions of any regulation .

- Do workers in your company receive safety training orientation and training on applicative OSHA standards, company safety requirements, and/or have enough experience to do their work safely?

Personal protective equipment
 - Do your workers use all required and provided personal protective products ?

Workers on Roofs
- When working on a roof with a pitch over 4:12 up to 6:12, are slide guards installed along the roof eave after the starting line three rows of roofing material are installed?
Excavations and trenching
- Do you find the location of all underground utilities by contacting the local utility locating service before digging ? Do you keep the horizontal width of the foundation trench at least 2 ft wide? Make sure there is no earth vibration while workers are in the trench.

Tools & equipment
- Are you inspect tools always to ensure they are safe and Defect-free ? Do you tag and take out broken or damaged tools from the job site ?

Vehicles & mobile equipment

Employee Training Tips
The OSHA rules require you to train all employees to recognize and void unsafe conditions and the rules applicable to his work environment to control or eliminate the hazards (1926.21(b)(2)). Work site safety covers a large number of work spaces . Use this time to implore your workers to be always on the lock out for job site hazards , do not take chances with them, and alert fellow employees and their immediate manager .

Growth Potential of the Steel Industry

Author: Jordan Laurent

The rapid growth of Chinese steel manufacturing turns up to be very stunning, Although when we think about the fact that China has a population of over the 1.2 billion, we find out that the per capita steel share is approximately lower than the same within the developed countries. It’s a fact that China has achieved massive progress in the steelmaking production for a long time, but it didn’t deny the need to import significant amounts of it. These days, China became a big exporter of steel. Which means that China has really increased the production average of such a heavy industry, and the next days will witness more unexpected massive achievements. You have to know more about it by reading the article below.

And speaking of recent countries in this field, South Korea has made approximately 46 to 48 million tons and Brazilhas made more than a million tons, which makes us focus on the same manufacturing field in India, as when we consider a consumption of over 250 kg per capita a year, India then will be obligated to get about 300 million tons, just to reach the target of becoming a really developed and modern country. This for sure is a long term way considering the current producing ratios of approximately 50 million tons. Speaking of Indian production, it started with approximately a million tons of this metal by its independence time in 1947. But when it came to 1991″ the time where the economy became so open”, the production level was raised to approximately 14 million tons.
