On Wisconsin: Wisconsin Quarter Coin Collecting

Author: Hugh J. Lara

Coin collecting and collections have been an exciting hobby enjoyed by individuals of all ages. Some of those collections could be rare coins, coins that are no longer minted or coins that are valuable. Additionally, coins can be collected that represent various countries. For example, coins from England, France or Spain can be gathered. Additionally, closer to home, one may wish to indulge in Canadian coin collecting or collecting American coin or state coins. One of those states is a central northern state that is part of the United States of America known as Wisconsin. Additionally, if one were asked about Wisconsin and name items that are associated with this state, there would be a variety of responses. For example an individual may respond by saying cold because of the harsh winters. Or another individual may say Packers. This is due to the fact that the Green Bay Packers are a NFL football team and play in the City of Green Bay. Or another individual may retort with the word cows. That is because Wisconsin is known as American’s dairyland. In fact, on the commemorative state quarters, a cow is depicted on the face of the 25 cent piece. Therefore, if collecting state quarters it is interesting to know some back ground information concerning the minting of these quarters. Specifically, if a person wishes to collect all 50 state quarters or just Wisconsin quarter coin collecting they will want to know about each of the representations on this coin. Dairy Cow One of the symbols that is central to Wisconsin quarter coin collecting is the dairy cow. This dairy cow is one of the key symbols that is depicted on the Wisconsin quarter. The reason why the dairy cow is a central symbol is because there is over one million dairy cows in the state. This in turn makes the State of Wisconsin one of the major producers of dairy products in the United States. Some of those products include milk and cheese. In fact there are over 350 varieties of cheeses that are produced. Motto Another feature that may appeal to the individual who is considering Wisconsin quarter coin collecting as a hobby may be attracted to the motto of Wisconsin. This one word motto is “forward.” This motto was adopted in 1851 and was to capture the commitment of Wisconsinites and their desire to be leaders in the Union. In addition, the individual involved in Wisconsin quarter coin collecting will be interested to know that Wisconsin was the 30th state to join the union. In addition, the actual Wisconsin quarter was minted in 2004 and, in keeping with the 30th state to be admitted was the 30th coin produced to be part of the United States quarter series. Corn  The other symbol that the individual that is involved in Wisconsin quarter coin collecting will notice is the ear of corn. The ear of corn is depicted on the Wisconsin quarter coin collection because close to 400 million bushels of corn are produced on an annual basis.

R4 Clone Family Tree

Author: Saphia

Confused by how many R4 Cards there are? Worried about fakes and clones? Read on to understand what’s out there and why there are so many cards to explore.

It shouldn’t be breaking news that there are loads of flash cards on the market of varying degrees of quality and “originality”, some with very complex relationships. There are clones of clones of copies, and keeping track of their history is important to some. For usability the main concern is a proven history of developer reliability. For example, the popular R4i SDHC is a clone of the DSTT but has a robust feature set and dependable updates.

Please note that while some of the cards we carry at our shop are known clones, they are well supported by professional teams of developers that are dedicated to updating their cards. A clone doesn’t necessarily mean a bad and unreliable card, but there are many deliberately confusing labels. Still, packaging is often used to distinguish between cards from different manufacturers. The R4 SDHC (beige box) comes from the manufacture of the R4i SDHC (red box), and they differ from the team that makes the first R4 SDHC (black box). A bad fake can mean instability or infrequent updates, but to date there has only been one card that’s been known to cause harm to your DS console. The N5 card had a flaw in the design that caused a short and a blown fuse after so many insertions of the Micro SD card.

Initial developers got started as early as the Gameboy Advanced and kept it up with crude slot 2 (bottom GBA slot on the DS and DS Lite) flash cards for the original DS console. Acknowledgement should be given to those teams and discontinued slot 2 cards for laying the groundwork. Some of them are still at work today, including the Supercard team. Since then there have been a lot of migration of developers adding to the confusion of who was making which card.

More advanced slot-1 cards came into development as Slot-2 cards fell out of disfavor, and the R4 Revolution card quickly rose to the top in popularity. The R4 v2 is an upgrade mainly in the removal of the spring-clip SDHC slot. The R4 team and the M3 team are closely related, if not the same team, and the M3DS Simply was a rebranded R4v2 with new firmware, as opposed to an unlicensed clone card. The M3DS Real is a legitimate upgrade and not a clone of the M3DS Simply. The iTouch series comes from the M3 Team, designed as an entry level to their family of cards. The M3i SDHC and the M3i Upgrade are fakes that are NOT from the M3 Team and should not be relied upon.

There have been more clones and rebranding of the R4 line than any other card. While bearing the same name as R4, various manufacturers have no affiliation to the original R4 team and develop their own card families and software. There are four main distinct manufacturers who produce an “R4″ card. The original R4 team is defunct, then there are the makers of the first R4 SDHC, the people who make the R4i SDHC (red box) started with a clone of the DSTT and they also make the R4i Gold, the R4 Ultra team is less popular but still prevalent, and to add to the confusion, the M3 team developed their own R4i RTS (white box).

Cards from other teams were in development at the time or soon after the R4DS. They are original technologies in their own right and not clones of other cards; the DSTT, the EZFlash V, the Acekard, the Supercard DSONE, and the CycloDS Evolution. The Supercard team claims that the CycloDS card is a clone of theirs but this claim has not been substantiated. It is generally considered that the CycloDS is superior to the Supercard DSONE, and proved so valued (if expensive) that it spawned the immensely popular Edge card as a clone.

As ever we endeavor to help our customers make informed decisions and understand where their cards are coming from. We carry R4 SDHC, DSTT, R4i SDHC, Acekard 2i, EZFlash Vi, M3i Zero, and now the iEdge!

Old Maid Is a Simple Card Game (Ezine Ready)

Author: Paul Hoemke

One of the first card games I ever played, and one of the simplest games, was Old Maid. (War is probably simpler, but that's another story.)

For those who have never played Old Maid, here are the rules using a store-bought deck of Old Maid cards. This deck consists of multiple pairs of matching cards and one Old Maid card.

One player shuffles the cards and deals them one at a time around the circle of players until all of the cards have been dealt. It doesn't matter if some players have more cards than others. Each player looks at his cards and removes any matching pairs of cards, placing them face-up on the table.

Then the players take turns playing, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer and moving clockwise around the circle. On your turn, take a card, unseen, from the first player to your right who has cards left to play. If that card matches a card in your hand, place that pair of cards on the pile of matches. If you run out of cards, you stop taking turns. You simply observe for the rest of the game.

Keep playing until the last pair of cards has been matched. The player left holding the Old Maid loses the game.

You can play Old Maid with a standard deck of playing cards. Just add a Joker, which takes the place of the Old Maid.

You can shorten the game if you remove cards from the deck. A store-bought Old Maid deck is usually smaller than a deck of playing cards. So you could remove the 2's, 3's, 4's, and 5's.

You can also control the length of the game based on how you match cards. If you match by rank and color (the Six of Clubs matches only the Six of Spades), the game is longer. If you match by rank alone (the Six of Clubs matches either the Six of Spades or the Six of Diamonds or the Six of Hearts), the game is shorter. And if you match by rank and opposite-color (the Six of Clubs matches either the Six of Diamonds or the Six of Hearts), the game is an in-between length.

You can also play without the Joker. You can remove a Queen from the deck so that the unmatched Queen becomes the Old Maid, or you can remove a King so that the unmatched King becomes the Old Bachelor. Or you can remove some other card. You can even remove a card so that the players don't see which card has been removed.

You can remove specific multiple cards. You can remove a King, a Queen, and a Jack.

Or you can remove multiple cards without the players seeing them. For instance, remove five random cards. If there are no pairs in these cards, there are five Old Maids. If there is one pair, there are three Old Maids. If there are two pairs, there is just one Old Maid. Nobody knows which cards are Old Maids or how many O
